The Blue Anchor in Ruckinge sits up just above sea level overlooking the Famous Romney Marsh. Steeped in history and boasting the infamous Ransley Gang as some of its past clientele! Built in the early seventeen hundreds when the Marsh still had estuaries and ships sailed up as far as the Royal Military Canal the Blue Anchor has enjoyed a successful if chequered past. It is local legend that the Blue Anchor Ale House was originally built to service a ship of the same name that regularly docked nearby.
Lisa & Gordon Russell first took the pub in 1986 and soon built a wide reputation for their food. They sold the pub in 2000 and went on to other catering ventures; returning in December 2008 with the ambition of recreating the old standards of good food linked with a vibrant atmosphere. The Blue Anchor balances successfully between being a village pub with its darts and pool teams and a food establishment serving traditional English fare but with its own unique flavours.
